Drug Offenses/ Charges
If you or someone you know has been arrested on drug charges in
When you arrive at our office for your free consultation, Mr. Foley will examine the Probable Cause Affidavit/Arrest Form with you and discuss your version of what occurred. Mr. Foley will assess the facts of your criminal case and determine whether there is evidence of an illegal search and seizure, mistaken identity, and/or other mitigating circumstances. Having this knowledge earlier in your case may enable your lawyer to have the charges against you changed or even dropped by the State Attorney’s Office.
Drug crimes vary from misdemeanors to first degree felonies. Charges may include: possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of cocaine, heroin, or crack cocaine; possession with intent to sell/distribute; drug trafficking; possession of a controlled substance without a prescription; possession of a controlled substance by fraud; and a multitude of combinations of these charges. Obviously, the higher the amount of any drug found in your possession, the more serious the criminal charge will be.
All drug crimes can have serious consequences, even for a first-time offender. If convicted of a drug offense, the chances of jail or prison are high. However, there are other consequences that must be considered when charged with a drug offense. For example, not only can a drug crimes conviction affect your future employment but college students may no longer qualify for federal student loans after being charged with a drug offense. Even if adjudication is withheld, they may be barred from receiving student loans to continue their education.
