Wilton Manors is a city in Broward County, Florida. The population was estimated at around thirteen thousand in 2006 according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Intended to be a residential community within the City of Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors was founded in 1925 by a real estate developer named Edward Willingham from Georgia. The one-two punch of the infamous 1926 hurricane and the subsequent Great Depression put a halt to any real development in Broward County until after the end of World War II.

Once the War was over, and returning troops flocked to South Florida, representatives from the Wilton Manors Civic Association lobbied the Broward County and the State of Florida to permit Wilton Manors form its own village separate and apart from Fort Lauderdale. Permission was obtained and on May 13, 1947, the Village of Wilton Manors was created.

Six years later, the Village Council filed the necessary Articles of Incorporation with the Florida State Legislature to enable the Village to become a City. The City of Wilton Manors became the 11th city in Broward County on June 4, 1953.

Although considered built out, in recent years there has been revitalization and growth, and property values, commercial and residential, have seen dramatic increases. The City’s “Arts and Entertainment” area along Wilton Drive offer visitors shops, restaurants, and entertainment choices. The Colohatchee Nature Park on the South Fork of the Middle River offers a boardwalk for nature observation, a dog park, and a boat ramp.
