Aventura Miami-Dade County, Florida

Aventura is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was estimated as approaching thirty thousand in 2007 according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

The area was mostly swamp known as Biscayne Gardens. One of the city's original condominium builders remarked how the journey from swamp to condos was going to be an adventure. The adventure became Aventura, after the Spanish word for "adventure."

Locally, the city is known as home of the upscale Aventura Mall, which contains Bloomingdale's, JC Penny, Macy's, Nordstrom, Sears, and a large AMC multiplex. A month after a teenage brawl occurred there in 2010, the mall implemented a "Parental Escort Policy." Persons under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 21 years or older after 9:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays evenings. Generally only the AMC Multiplex and mall restaurants are open after 9:30 PM.

Aventura boasts its own Police Department, which became operational on April 1, 1997, and currently employs over 80 full time officers.
