Coral Springs, Florida Criminal Lawyers

In 1919, Henry Bud Lyons, whom Lyons Road is named after, acquired 20,000 acres of marshland in the western portion of Broward County. Mr. Lyons hired workers from the Bahamas to help him clear and drain the land and prepare it for farming. The land became the largest in the U.S. for growing beans and awarded Mr. Lyons the title of “Titan of the Bean Patch.” When Mr. Lyons died in 1952, his family decided to use the land for ranching and soon it was stocked with 5,000 heads of cattle.

In 1960, Mr. Lyons widow sold 3,800 acres of the land for $1million to James S. Hunt who was the President of Coral Ridge Properties. Later, Mr. Hunt prepared some of the land and brought in a few wooden houses that became the homes of some of his business staff. This recruitment brought in enough residents to qualify and establish an incorporated municipality, and on July 10, 1963, the land was officially chartered by the State of Florida. The settlement of the houses was along Wiles Road, which was the only entrance into the area at the time.

In 1965, the event known as the “Land Rush Sale” took place with the help of the famed celebrity Johnny Carson and an enormous barbeque was held for the prospective buyers. This huge event resulted in the sale of 300 acres of land consisting of 1,100 lots for the sum of $5 million. The home sites sold were The Meadows, selling for $2,695 and up, The Hills selling for $9,000 and up, and the Village Green selling for $5,500 and up. By 1968, homes in Coral Springs were selling for $17,900 to $70,000. The city kept growing and by 1983, Coral Springs had 50,000 residents.

Today, Coral Springs is an affluent community with a population of approximately 125,000 residents in 24 constituent neighborhoods, making it the fifteenth largest city in the State of Florida.
